and the meetings!
e.g. tonight, Uber had a surge, indicating that it was busy. I made it to the surge zone, and it started me off at a $3 surge, and then it climbed to $4. and then I didn't get a ride. I then saw a surge zone halfway across town of $13. so I started driving that way. when I got 2/3 of the way there, it gave me a bullshit offer for an $8 ride ($4 ride + my $4 surge). I passed on it, since I was at this point 4-5 minutes away from the $13 surge. Then the entire surge map vanished, and I was left without a surge at all. And then there was a $5 surge behind me, in a place I had just driven past. So I turned around and drove back there. And by the time I got back there, the $5 surge had vanished. But the $13 surge was back in the exact same spot as before. So I started driving that way. And then it vanished again. For all that, it stuck me with a surge of $1.25. I'd wasted 20 minutes and been paid nothing. I drove near downtown and parked and waited. 10 minutes later, I got a ride that paid less than $4 (meaning less than $2.75 for the ride itself + the $1.25 surge). So being bored out of my mind, I drove the trip. And then there was no surge at all. And I came back home.
